August 13th, 2024

David McDonald, MSN, FNP, RN, is the newest addition to the primary care team at PMC – Morganton Park in Southern Pines. Pinehurst Medical Clinic (PMC) is excited to welcome McDonald to the established team and expand its primary care access. He earned his bachelor’s degree of science in nursing from Governors State University, University Park, IL, and his master’s degree in nursing from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. Beginning his career as a paramedic and firefighter, he connected with the medical aspect of those roles and eventually went to nursing school to pursue a full-time nursing career. After serving almost ten years as a registered nurse, he enrolled in nurse practitioner training. McDonald states, “I love meeting with patients and helping them manage their healthcare needs, and I especially enjoy teaching people how to optimize their health through prevention and taking a proactive approach to self-care.”With his wealth of knowledge and a deep dedication to patient care, McDonald has developed a care philosophy focused on providing guidance tailored to a given person's goals. He says, "I think it is crucial to help educate patients as much as possible about the options that exist for managing their health. More information is available now than ever, but people still need experienced professionals to help make sense of it all. I like to explain the risks and benefits of the available choices to prevent or treat a given condition.”  McDonald is joining PMC's primary care department, where he will be responsible for providing a wide range of healthcare services, including promoting healthy living, disease prevention, health maintenance, treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, and more. As part of the PMC organization, primary care providers have access to several specialty care and wellness resources to provide the best possible care to improve their patients' overall health and well-being. Relocating from Illinois, David and his family dreamt of one day living in North Carolina and feel blessed to have the opportunity to call it home.
