How to Celebrate National Heart Health Month

February 2nd, 2018

Did you see anyone wearing red on Groundhog Day? February 2nd might have a lot to do with a certain varmint seeing or not seeing his shadow. It might have something to do with whether or not we get an extended winter. This year, 2 February 2018 also has everything to do with your heart.

National Wear Red Day occurs the first Friday of every February, signifying support for raising the awareness of heart disease. Raising awareness about heart disease is important because, according to GoRedForWomen.org, cardiovascular disease kills one person in the US every 80 seconds — and that’s just when it comes to women.

Heart Disease by the Numbers

The American College of Cardiology asserts that, among Americans, every 40 seconds someone of either sex dies of cardiovascular disease (CVD), further expanding to say that 800,000 deaths occur annually in the US alone — or one out of every three deaths.

More than 90 million Americans carry a CVD diagnosis. CVD kills more than all forms of cancer combined. That’s why Pinehurst Medical Clinic, Inc. is here to do our part to raise heart health awareness among our patients and readership.
