Pinehurst Medical Clinic Vein Clinic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of
venous insufficiency.
WHAT IS VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY?
Varicose veins are a sign of an underlying disorder of the circulatory
system called venous insufficiency. This condition is an enormous
problem in the US. By age sixty, 70% of women and 40% of men will suffer
from this condition. If left untreated, it can lead to a chronic and
potentially debilitating condition.
WHAT CAUSES VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY AND VARICOSE VEINS?
The return of blood from the legs is directed by a series of one-way
valves to overcome gravity. When valves inside the veins fail, blood
flows in the wrong direction down to the feet leading to varicose veins
and the clinical manifestations of venous insufficiency.
COMMON SYMPTOMS
• Leg Edema (Swelling)
• Leg Heaviness
• Pain (phlebitis) and Cramping
• Skin discoloration and skin thickening (Lipodermatosclerosis)
• Dermatitis (Eczema)
• Venous Ulcers
• Restless Leg Syndrome
COMPRESSION THERAPY
The initial therapy for varicose veins and venous insufficiency is
compression with fitted graduated compression stockings. Compression
therapy assists veins in blood return and can help minimize pain and
swelling
VENEFIT PROCEDURE
The Venefit Procedure is a minimally invasive, office-based procedure
that offers patients effective relief from varicose vein disease and
venous insufficiency. Most patients will return to usual activities the
same day.
The Venefit procedure is a catheter-based Radiofrequency Ablation of severely insufficient and dilated superficial veins, typically, the Greater or Lesser Saphenous Veins or diseased Perforator Veins.
