Pinehurst Medical Clinic (PMC) welcomes advanced practice provider Melissa Aubin, PA-C, to its obesity medicine team. Aubin will be joining the established team located at PMC – Morganton Park in Southern Pines consisting of board-certified endocrinology and obesity medicine physician Alex Bonnecaze, MD, and board-certified internal medicine and obesity medicine, Julie Baugher, MD.
Aubin earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from State University of New York at Oswego in Oswego, N.Y.
According to the most recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, obesity prevalence in the United States was 41.9 percent in 2017 – March 2020, an 11.4 percent increase from 1999 – 2000. [i] Obesity-related conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke are among the leading causes of preventable, premature death.
“I am excited to be welcoming Melissa to the PMC team to serve patients seeking non-surgical treatment for obesity,” expressed Dr. Alex Bonnecaze. “Melissa’s addition will help to address the community’s growing need for access to obesity medicine care.”
Bringing over ten years of clinical experience, Aubin has had the opportunity to turn her passion for caring for others into a career. During this time, she has curated a care philosophy of promoting strong provider-patient relationships to encourage open communication.
“I learned in PA school to always listen to the patient, they will always lead you to a diagnosis” stated Aubin. “I have built my practice off of that philosophy and it has led to some truly amazing results. I get to know my patients and build a trusting relationship.”
Originally from Fulton, NY, Aubin has called North Carolina home since 2018 and enjoys the lack of snow and ample sunshine the state has to offer. Outside of patient care, she enjoys singing and playing violin with the Worship team at her church, teaching dance fitness classes, and exploring the land of make-believe with her 3-year-old daughter and her two fur siblings, Sid, their dog, and Creature, their cat.
